What is Leaders in Training (LIT)?

Leaders in Training (LIT) is an exciting, hands-on leadership program for students entering 7th–11th grade in Fall 2026. Whether you’re a Destination Science graduate or a student ready to step into a leadership role, our LIT program gives you real-world experience while staying connected to the fun and innovation of hands-on science.

Why Be an LIT?

Build Real Leadership Skills

Learn how to guide younger campers, communicate clearly, problem-solve, and lead by example — skills that transfer to school, sports, and future careers.

Develop Strong Character

Practice responsibility, kindness, perseverance, and integrity every single day. As an LIT, you don’t just learn leadership — you live it.

Gain Real-World Experience

Work alongside experienced camp leaders in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. You’ll learn how to support teams, manage challenges, and take initiative.

Serve in a Nonprofit STEM Organization

Be part of a mission-driven organization that inspires the next generation of scientists and engineers. Your experience reflects meaningful service in education and STEM.

Strengthen Your Resume & Applications

LIT experience builds leadership, service, responsibility, and commitment — qualities that shine on high school applications, college applications, scholarships, and job resumes. Why not gain community service hours while having fun and making a difference?

Make an Impact

You’re not just attending camp — you’re helping create it. Younger campers look up to you.

The Leaders in Training program is offered at all CA, NY, TX & WA locations.

  • LITs must commit to at least 2 weeks at camp.
  • Schedule: 8:30am–3:00pm, Monday–Friday (Extended Care avail at select camp locations!)
  • If you can’t commit to a full week or full day, please request an alternate week.

Tell us about yourself and why you want to be an LIT. You’ll select your preferred locations and camp weeks (two-week minimum required). Applications are reviewed by our LIT Panel after required items are received.
