Sure, you’ll find traditional camp activities here. But with themes like The Ultimate Survival Zone, Astronaut Adventure Camp, and more, it’s safe to say this camp is anything but typical.

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! Nope, it’s a rocket! Last week, I got the chance to visit—and launch a rocket at—Destination Science Camp’s Rye location.

This hands-on camp might be a change of pace for your little one over the summer. They offer weekly programs for kids ages K to 6th-grade at a variety of Westchester locations. The camp runs for four weeks but each week has a different science topic. This year, the themes are The Ultimate Survival Zone, Astronaut Adventure Camp, Wacky Mega-Bot Tech, and Crazy Coaster Science & Sea-fari Park. Plus, the campers work on projects throughout the week and are able to take home whatever they make!

When I went to check out this new Westchester camp, the staff was being trained. While it does have traditional camp activities like singing and “splash time,” all activities at Destination Science are based on the National Science Educations Standards. “It is truly an enrichment camp. We don’t only do science; while the campers are doing science they are doing character building and life skills,” explained Heena Desai, one of the camps directors.

I have to say that, after spending just a few hours at the camp, I wish I could have stayed all day to play with the robots and rockets! The camp is still accepting campers so sign up your scientist for any of the four weeks.
